Master Ripon
Molla, a 15 years old orphan boy came of a family with poor socio-economic
background; lost almost everything due to continuous erosion of river Padma
and presently living in a land given by Government. The family is enlisted
in bellow poverty level list. Due to the extreme poverty Ms. Rupali Khatun,
minor sister of Ripon is working as domestic help for earning livelihood.
The poor economical condition indulges Ripon to involve with a racket which
operates illegal cross border activities in the district.
We received a complaint that on 22/05/2010 around 12 noon some medicine
(used as intoxicant) namely Phensydile were smuggled through observatory
Point (OP) II with the help of some BSF personnel. According to the
information the BSF personal was not paid ‘adequate’ bribe at the
‘prescribed time’ by the smugglers. It made the BSF personal furious. Around
1.30 pm while Ripon; carrying six bottles of alcohols for those smugglers
was passing through the OP and during his journey caught by Mr. Kamal
Hossain, the commandant of Bamnabad BSF camp, was on duty at the said OP.
Mr. Hossain snatched those bottles and started drinking from one of those
bottles. It did not mitigate his rage. He tied Ripon with a rope and then
made him unclothed. The BSF personal started beating Ripon ruthlessly
thereafter. After around one hour one constable from Bamnabad Border Outpost
approached there and released Ripon with four bottles of that substance.
Around 3.30 pm the victim boy contacted one of our activists and
subsequently he was taken to Raninagar Primary Health Centre for medical
treatment. Doctor Mr. Atikur Rahaman examined him and noted his injuries
vide register no. 168 dated 22/05/2010. He was taken to Raninagar Police
Station (PS) thereafter and a complaint; vide Raninagar PS GDE no. 279 dated
22/05/2010 was lodged there. Police of Raninagar PS purposefully did not
start a specific criminal case against the perpetrator to save the BSF.
Therefore, neither any BSF person has been arrested till date nor the police
came to the spot or enquired from the victims / villagers. According to
school (47 Lalkup Junior Basic School) certificate, the date of birth of
Master Ripon is 3rd March 1995.
