People under Below Poverty Level are being manhandled by BSF personnel

It was on 07 January 2010 that Mr. Tajul Seikh and abovementioned seven other fellow villagers set forth towards their respective agricultural field. The primary victim Mr. Tajul Seikh has lost his house and landed properties in Padma erosion and has neither received any governmental compensation nor been listed in BPL (Below Poverty Level) list. Mr. Tajul Seikh took the land of Ms. Golenur Bibi located at Mouza- Rajsahi Khasmahal, Khatian no. 65, Dag no. 704/705 on lease and cultivates crops. Apropos to standing procedure set by BSF, they obtained requisite permission at around 8 AM from Khayertala BSF BOP no. 1 and 2 by showing their voter ID cards and proceeded for their day’s work to their respective agricultural land. However while returning through BOP 1 and 2 at around 4 PM, five on-duty BSF personnel halted them and started assaulting them without sounding any reason whatsoever. While continuously using filthy language throughout the incident, at first they slapped the innocent villagers and went on kicking them with boots. Then they(BSF) forced to put their(the villagers) head on the sand and made them bound to remain in the Muslim’s prayer pose (head down and heaps up) for at least half an hour. During the whole period those BSF perpetrators kept on battering on their back, buttock and leg with sticks and with rear portion of sickle snatched from those poor farmers. In the mean time one BSF jawan kicked on private parts of Mr. Subodh Mondal. The horrific torture continued for at least one and half hour. At last, being relieved from BSF atrocities, all of them went to Sagarpara Primary Health Centre (PHC) to incur some medicare. It is evident from the PHC treatment slip that all those farmers sustained grievous injuries on the said parts.

Next day, on 08 January 2010, at around 11 AM all those tortured farmers went to Jalangi Police Station. However, the on-duty police personnel registered a mere General Diary Entry (No. 384, dated 08 January 2010) instead of a First Information Report. Some police officers reached the Khayertala BSF Camp for primary investigation on the same evening. Consequently next day i.e. on 09 January 2010, the BSF Camp Commander came to the residence of Mr. Tajul Seikh in order to pressurize him to negotiate the matter. While Mr. Tajul Seikh restrained to do so, the Camp Commander declared arrogantly that it was of no use to complain (by simple poor farmer) against BSF and nothing can be done against them (BSF). In spite of the BSF Commander’s proclamation, Mr. Tajul Seikh did not succumb to pressures and kept their belief on law and order upright. But, unfortunately, no legal action has yet been initiated against those perpetrator BSF personnel. It is most appalling though, the fact is, all those poor farmers are extremely afraid of BSF’s vengeance and hence they cannot even go to the agricultural land. Being known to BSF personnel’s erstwhile common practice of implicating villagers by planting some Bangladesh currency or Fencidyl (drug), or else atrocious torments, they are looking forward to get justice and apt protection of their human rights.
