Masum received information that there is some feud between Mr. Alam Seikh and Mr. Saifuddin Seikh since a long. On 31/10/2009 a scuffle broke between those two and their companions. Mr. Habil Seikh; son of Mr. Abdul Karim a resident of village Basudevpur, with another friend of Mr. Saifuddin Seikh lodged a complaint against Mr. Alam Seikh; a meat shop owner at Samserganj police station and subsequently police initiated a criminal case against the accused bearing FIR no. 274/09 dated 01/11/2009 under sections 326/307 & 34 of Indian Penal Code and 3 & 4 of Explosive Substances Act.  On 01/11/2009 around 10.30 am, a team of police personnel from Samserganj police station led by Mr. Sandip Sen, the Officer-in-Charge of the said police station reached at Mr. Alam’s meat shop by a prison van. Mr. Saifuddin Seikh and some of his companions also reached at the place by four vehicles (TATA Sumo) along with those policemen.  They ransacked and destroyed the shop and ruined the establishment. Then around 12 p.m. they reached at the house of Mr. Alam Seikh. Alam was not present at his home while the police with Alam’s dissidents raided his house. Most of the male members were not at the home but Ms. Nurjahan Bibi and Ms. Jamenur Bibi; mother and sister of Alam Seikh respectively; Jamenur is also an accused of the aforesaid criminal case. Jamenur’s two minor daughters, Ms. Rejina and Ms. Sahina were at the resident of Alam Seikh but they fled from the scene just before atrocious acts by the said police personnel. Police and those miscreants started ransacking the house immediately after reaching the place. The women who were at the home protested against this act. It made the policemen and involved miscreants more furious. The police battered the women black and blue by their sticks. Several marks of haematoma were spotted on Jamenur’s body which was clearly visible. The policemen then picked those women into a prison van by dragging their hairs and took them to the said police station while they were not in proper clothing. Then the women have been locked at the regular police lock-up instead of separate female lock -up. Ms. Jamenur became seriously sick due to the brutal physical assault upon her during the raid and thereafter.  Around 8.30 p.m. she was taken to ‘Dhulian Gramin Hospital’ for medical check up and brought back to the police station again. Around 9.00 pm police compelled those women to sign on a blank paper and then released them. Police also threatened them before releasing and told them non to disclose anything about the incident.

On 18/12/2009 our volunteer talked with Mr. Sandip Sen, the Officer-in-Charge of Samserganj Police Station over phone. He stated that the allegation made by the victims against involved policemen is totally false. He further opined that Mr. Alam Seikh is an anti social and Ms. Jamenur Bibi was also attached with illegal activities with Alam and for that the police did the right thing. He also made filthy and sexually intimidating words for Jamenur Bibi.   Mr. Sen also made insulting remarks on our organization and threatened our activist by saying that he would teach him a lesson. The above story is speaking itself that police is indulged with unruly, illegal and torturous acts braking every rule and procedures.
